Environmental Projection this Christmas

Implementing Environmental Projection this Christmas is one of the most amazing uses of technology to transform environments. You can put yourself under the stars, soaring through the clouds, in a magnificent cathedral, or a winter wonderland in the blink of an eye. Combine that with the wonder and amazement of Christmas and you have something truly powerful on your hands.

If you have never considered doing EP then you should take a moment to see just how transformative it can be. Now, there is going to be a lot to cover to get you to where you need to be as far as your setup goes, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Start Here and you’ll be well on your way to implementing environmental projection in your space.

OK, now that you’ve got the basics down, lets dive into the two biggest pieces to consider for your particular setup (after projection etc is done.)

1 – Story

Start with Story. What are you talking about? What songs have you chosen? What’s the message on? Is there a character of focus? You really need to start with story in order to choose visuals that tell and reinforce your story. The sheer size of the visuals you will be projecting on your walls will immerse your audience in that place. Be sure they match your story. If you’re talking about the nativity you probably should avoid snowmen visuals or beach scenes.

2 – Content

Content is what tells your story visually. If this is your first time implementing environmental projection, take it slow and start with stills. Great textures, simple images, and scenes can create an amazing atmosphere without the distraction motions can bring (especially with EP.) That doesn’t mean you have to avoid motions, I just want you to be cautious as you venture into this new world.

How do you find media that fits? Login to your account (or create one here) and browse the library. Search for key terms such as snow, nativity, texture, particles, and Christmas to get an idea of what is available. Add items to your wish-list to share with your team so you can evaluate what works with what you’re trying to accomplish. Collaborate with your worship, lighting, and video teams to be sure that everyone is on the same page.

Finally, get more than you need. I always like to have a few extra visuals in my pocket in case their is a change in the service, a song is added last minute, or their is some improvisation on stage. Just make sure that these also match your story, color palette and general tone of your setup.
